Colorado Model Content Standards: Writing Level K

Standard 2 –

Students write and speak for a variety of purposes and audiences.

K.4.a Create a narrative “story” orally or written (drawing, telling, written)ES

K.4.a Write 2 sentences on a given topic or prompt

K.4.b Organize information for writing or speaking with a clear beginning, middle, and ending

K.4.c Choose simple and familiar words in writings that support the main idea (age-appropriate)

K.4.a Retell sequentially a story or process with some detail

  • Write about experiences, people, stories, objects, or events, using phonetically spelled words

K.4.e Write legibly

Standard 3 –

Students write and speak using conventional grammar, usage, sentence structure, punctuation, capitalization, and spelling.

K.4.b Use modifiers correctly in sentences

  • Write in complete sentences with meaning
  • Identify sentences written with correct word order

K.4.d Spell simple words correctly (age-appropriate)

K.4.d Apply phonetic patterns to spell words

K.4.c Apply fundamental punctuation rules
