Writing Standard 3.b - Level 7
Use standard English usage in writing including subject/verb agreement, pronoun referents, modifiers, homonyms, and homophones
Standard in Kid Friendly Language
Students will know how to use the English language to write sentences, paragraphs, and essays.
Standard Unwrapped
- KNOW that subjects and verbs must agree.
- KNOW that pronouns must agree with their referents.
- KNOW there are words that are spelled or pronounced in the same way as one or more other words but have a different meaning (homonyms).
- KNOW there are words that are pronounced in the same way as one or more other words but are different in meaning and sometimes spelling, as are “hair” and “hare”(homophones).
- KNOW that modifiers must be placed correctly in order for a sentence to make sense.
ABLE TO DO
- Student will be able to identify the simple subject and simple verb to make sure they agree in number and person.
- Student will be able to identify all pronouns and their referents to make sure they agree in number and person.
- Student will be able to spell and use homonyms correctly in sentences, paragraphs, and essays.
- Student will be able to spell and use homophones correctly in sentences, paragraphs, and essays.
- Student will be able to identify and use modifiers correctly in sentences, paragraphs, and essays.
