Colorado Model Content Standards: Writing Level 3

2 Students write and speak for a variety of purposes and audiences.

2.a Write in a variety of modes such as: short personal narratives, friendly letters, and brief expository pieces (informational paragraph or how-to paragraph) for the purpose of informing or explaining to a variety of audiences.ES

2.b Organize writing with a beginning, middle, and end; or with main ideas and supporting details. ES

2.c Use appropriate choice of words to communicate clearly.ES

2.d Plan, draft, revise and edit for a legible final copy. ES

2.e Create a legible document.ES

2.f Use a variety of sentence structures.ES

2.g Write to a prompt. ES

2.h Use transitions to link ideas.ES

3 Students write and speak using conventional grammar, usage, sentence structure, punctuation, capitalization, and spelling.

3.a Identify parts of speechES

3.c Write in complete sentences.ES

3.d Use capitalization at the beginning of sentences, for proper nouns, and for the pronoun ā€˜I’.

3.d1 Use capitalization at the beginning of sentences, for proper nouns, and for the pronoun ā€œIā€.ES

3.d2 Use correct punctuation to end sentences (such as the period, question mark, and exclamation mark).ES

3.e Use correct spelling of age-appropriate high-frequency words, regular plurals and phonetic spelling for difficult words.ES
