Writing Essential Skills for Level 2
First Quarter
Students will be able to:
- Utilize pre-writing strategies, for example, planners and cameras. Writing Standard 1(2.d)
- Write three to four connected sentences with a clear topic. Writing Standard 2(2.b)
- Identify subject and verb in a sentence. Writing Standard 2
Second Quarter:
Students will be able to:
- Write friendly letter containing date, greeting, body, closing, and signature focusing on a specific purpose. Writing Standard 2(2.a)
- Write a simple set of directions showing sequencing and transitions. Writing Standard 2(2.h)
- Students will write legibly on their written work. Writing Standard 2 (2.e)
Third Quarter:
Students will be able to:
- Include a reflection in personal narrative. Writing Standard 2(2.b.2)
- Write on a topic of choice, which includes descriptive words creating an image and shows individuality. Writing Standard 2(2.c)
- Write sentences beginning in a variety of ways. Writing Standard 2(2.f)
Fourth Quarter:
Students will be able to:
- Use factual information from a graphic organizer and organize it into a non fiction report. Writing Standard 2,5(3)
- Spell with one hundred percent accuracy the Second Grade No-Excuse Spelling List. Writing Standard 2(3.e)
- Edit their writing for ending capitalization (e.g. beginning of sentence, proper nouns, and the pronoun āIā). Writing Standard 3(3.d.1)
- Edit their writing for ending punctuation (e.g. periods, question marks, and exclamation marks. Writing Standard 3(3.d.2)
- Publish a final draft of a writing piece. Writing Standard 2(2.d)
