Writing Essential Skills for Level 1

First Quarter

Students will be able to:

  • Choose own topic. (2.a)
  • Write 1-2 sentences on topic. (2.g)
  • Spell some (50%) high frequency words correctly. (3.e)
  • Use phonetic spelling on other words. (3.e)
  • Write legibly and with spaces between words. (2.e)

Second Quarter

Students will be able to:

  • Choose a variety of topics. (2.a)
  • Write 3-4 sentences on topic. (2.g)
  • Use capitals and periods 25% of time. (3.d.1)
  • Spell most (80%) high frequency words correctly. (3.e)
  • Use phonetic spelling on other words. (3.e)

Third Quarter

Students will be able to:

  • Choose a variety of topics. (2.a)
  • Attempt sequencing (beg/mid/end attempt). (2.b)
  • Given a visual prompt, will write 5-6 complete sentences on topic. (2.g)
  • Use capitals and periods 50% of time. (3.d.1) & (3.d.2)
  • Spell most (80%) high frequency words correctly. (3.e)
  • Use phonetic spelling on other words. (3.e)

Fourth Quarter

Students will be able to:

  • Attempt sequencing (beg/mid/end). (2.b)
  • Given a visual prompt, will write 7-8 complete sentences on topic. (2.g)
  • Use capitals and periods 75% of time. (3.d.1) & (3.d.2)
  • Spell most (80%) high frequency words correctly. (3.e)
  • Applies correct spelling in daily work (3.e)
  • Spells district spelling list with 100% accuracy (3.e)
