Content Standard 3.d2 - Level 1

Use correct, age-appropriate, fundamental punctuation, spelling, grammar, capitalization, and word usage in writings.

Standard in Kid Friendly Language

Students will use periods at the end of a sentence.

Standard Unwrapped

KNOW Students will identify the end of a sentence with punctuation.

ABLE TO DO Students will be able to demonstrate the use of punctuation at the end of each sentence they write.

Instructional Strategies

  1. Students will be given daily opportunities to practice writing sentences with punctuation at the end.
  2. Students will listen to stories from various sources (teacher, other students, listening center, computer) while following text to practice identification of sentence endings.
  3. Students will read stories while following text to practice identification of sentence endings.

Assessment Strategies

  1. Quarterly assessments of student's ability to produce sentences that include capitalization at the beginning of each sentence.
  2. Review of daily writing samples to ensure the use of correct capitalization at the beginning of each sentence.
  3. Conferencing with students (Conferencing Document This form could be used in the front of a daily writing journal to note conferences with students.
