Technology Standard 2.2 - Level 6

Exhibit legal and ethical behaviors when using technology and information and discuss consequences of misuse

Standard in Kid Friendly Language

Show appropriate behavior when using technology and information, and explain what would happen if you behave inappropriately

Standard Unwrapped

KNOW

  • The difference between right and wrong when using the computer and/or the Internet
  • The importance of keeping passwords safe
  • What constitutes a violation of student privacy related to the server and student work

ABLE TO DO

  • List the increasing scale of consequences that would happen to a student who:
  1. Did not protect their password
  2. Violated another person's privacy (i.e. getting into their student folder and messing with their work)
  3. Posted inappropriate content either on a school computer or the Internet

Instructional Strategies

  • Review the district's Acceptable Use Policy/Agreement
  • Watch a scenario (on DVD, created by BMS students) related to password protection
  • Discuss what privacy means regarding passwords, server, other student's work, etc.
  • List consequences students would face (either natural or prescribed) from violating any of these ideas

Assessment Strategies

  • Classroom discussion
    • check for understanding and if the students can accurately answer specific questions
    • checklist of the students in the class to track their number and quality of responses
