Technology Standard 1.3 - Level 6 - Essential Skill

When a system is not working properly, demonstrate an understanding of hardware, software and connectivity problem solving processes

Standard in Kid Friendly Language

When something goes wrong with the computer, students should either fix it or know how to find troubleshooting strategies for fixing it.

  • Definition of the following words:

ABLE TO DO

  • Use the 4 relevant senses to detect a problem
  • Collaborate with others
  • Perform at least 2 basic troubleshooting strategies when they cannot connect to the server
  • Demonstrate how to moved a misplaced file back into their student folder

Instructional Strategies

    • What do I see? (ex. the screen is black, but there is a flashing light on the monitor/tower)
    • What do I smell? (ex. smoke = problem with hardware, immediately unplug)
    • What do I hear? (ex. the program keeps beeping like it is stuck in one spot)
    • What do I feel? (ex. the cpu is super hot)
