World Geography Essential Skills for Level 9

First Semester:

Students will be able to:

• Analyze the spatial organization of people, places, and environments.

• Locate and identify 80% of countries on map of the Western Hemisphere.

• Construct and use globes, maps and other geographical tools to interrupt information about people, places and things in the Western Hemisphere.

• Identify the human characteristics of places in the Western Hemisphere

• Locate and identify 80% of the physical features of the Western Hemisphere.

• Evaluate the forces of cooperation and conflict within the region.

• Identify how human actions modify the physical environment.

• Recognize how physical systems affect human systems.

• Use geography to interpret the past.

• Apply geography to understand the present and plan for the future.

• Evaluate the patterns and networks of economic interdependence.

Second Semester:

Students will be able to:

• Analyze the spatial organization of people, places, and environments.

• Locate and identify 80% of countries on map of the Eastern Hemisphere.

• Construct and use globes, maps, latitude and longitude, and other geographical tools to interrupt information about people, places and things in the Eastern Hemisphere.

• Identify the human characteristics of places in the Eastern Hemisphere and use this knowledge to define and study regions and their patterns of change.

• Locate and identify 80% of the physical features of the Eastern Hemisphere.

• Evaluate the forces of cooperation and conflict within the region.

• Identify how human actions modify the physical environment through economical, political, cultural, and social interactions.

• Recognize how physical systems affect human systems (climate, weather patterns, etc...).

• Use geography to interpret the past.

• Apply geography to understand the present and plan for the future.

• Evaluate the patterns and networks of economic interdependence.
