  • Students will explain the historical relationships by:
    • Explaining Causes and Effects of all events up to 1865.
    • Examining data for Point of View, Bias, Distortion, and Propoganda regarding the time from 1492 to 1865.

Instructional Strategies

  • Research the Pilgrims and why they came to America through Primary Sources.
  • Look at the Puritans and the Salem Witch Trials and compare and contrast differing points of view within their society and with the rest of the world.
  • Watch Last of the Mohicans to identify biases and differing points of view among the British, the Colonists, and the Native Americans.
  • Perform Boston Tea Party skits in chronolical order leading up the the Revolutionary War. Look at Cause and Effect of all activities and how they led to the Revolutionary War.
  • Act out Constitutional Convention Similation to compare and contrast differing points of view within the newly formed United States regarding large states versus small states and Northern states versus Southern States.
  • Conduct a Southern slave auction and write written responses regarding point of view from the perspectives of the buyers, slaves and auctioneers/slaver roles.
  • Create Time-line activity for lead-up to Civil War to identify the causes of the Civil War.
