First Semester:
Students will be able to:
- Solve torque problems.
- Identify a measurement as either a scalar or vector quantity.
- Solve “elevator” problems.
- Differentiate between static and kinetic friction.
- Determine efficiency of a simple machine.
- Determine tension for static equilibrium problems.
- Apply Pascal’s Principle in a hydraulic system.
- Determine angular speed and acceleration.
- Research and develop an independent science fair research project.
Second Semester:
Students will be able to:
- Understand the relationship between voltage, current, and resistance (i.e. apply Ohm’s Law).
- Calculate the speed of sound in various materials.
- Solve problems using Hooke’s Law.
- Determine current, power, and resistance in an electric series.
- Experimentally conduct an independent research project. (Conduct experiments, write a report, and present findings.)
- Experimentally verify the law of conservation of momentum for one-dimensional motion.
- Solve problems involving Kirchhoff’s Laws.
- Determine the size and location of an image produced by either a plane or concave
