Science Essential Skills for Level 8

First Quarter:

Students will:

  • Identify major ecosystems.
  • Explain and illustrate how living and non-living resources affect ecosystems.
  • Illustrate the major cycles: water carbon oxygen.
  • List renewable and non-renewable resources.
  • Analyze how binomial nomenclature works.

Second Quarter:

Students will:

  • Distinguish between atom molecule compounds.
  • Sketch plant animal bacterial cells and know the function of each cell.
  • Recognize the inputs and outputs of photosynthesis and respiration.
  • Build carbohydrates and Nucleic acid models.


Third Quarter:

Students will:

  • Compare chromosome numbers of living organisms and distinguish between haploid and diploid numbers.
  • Illustrate dominance and recessive traits.
  • Illustrate Punnette squares.
  • Discuss genetic engineering.


Fourth Quarter:
