Reading Standard (5.a) 6A - Level PK

Preschool learners begin to identify the role of the “author’’ and the “illustrator” of books that are read to them or that they create.

Standard in Kid Friendly Language

You will be able to tell who the author and illustrator are in a book.

Standard Unwrapped

KNOW - Students will know what the author and illustrator do for a book and be able to describe it.

ABLE TO DO - Students will be able to describe the roles of an author and illustrator.

Instructional Strategies

  • Identify the author, illustrator and the parts of books when reading to children.
  • The environment contains materials for children to create their own stories and pictures in book form.
  • The children are noted as the “author” and the “illustrator” when doing so.
  • The classroom environment contains several books by the same author displayed together.
