Standard in Kid Friendly Language
Students can learn information about the story by looking at the pictures.

KNOW Kindergarten students will use pictures to predict print.
ABLE TO DO
Students will look at the pictures in books to gain information about the print. Students will learn that it is the "Print" that carries meaning and pictures only provide information about the print.
Instructional Strategies
Modeling: Before reading Big Books, take a picture walk and make predictions about what may happen in the story and make connections to other stories they have heard.
Reading Aloud to Children: teacher reads to students.
Shared Reading: teachers read with students.
Guided Reading: students work in group to read a book with the teacher as a guide.
Independent Reading: students read alone or with peer.
Listening Center: students will listen to books on tapes.
Homework and Practice: Throughout the year the teacher will send home leveled readers to practice reading at home with family.
