Standard Unwrapped
KNOW Students will understand that it is a crime not to give credit for borrowed information.
ABLE TO DO Students will be able to experiment with putting together works consulted pages conform to MLA standards.
Instructional Strategies
- Item One
Teaching mechanical skills is the most important in connection with this standard. Therefore I provide my students a short printed version of Modern Language Association Guide (MLA)to use while practicing academic formatting of citations.
Modeling:
Teacher chooses a topic and demonstrates through a projector, hooked up to a computer with internet connection, the various credible resources that can be used to find information on it.
Teacher points out the difference between a credible resource and site that is not recommended to cite from.
Teacher then starts constructing the Works Cited page while utilizing a short printed version of (MLA). (See "Resources").
Assessment Strategies
Students write several research papers during the year. I assess how well they document the resources they use based on the shortened version of MLA handout and distributed criteria sheet.
