Distinguish between fact and opinion.

Standard in Kid Friendly Language

You will be able to separate fact and opinion. Fact is something that is given, that you cannot change, while opinion may be different from person to person; it is someone's personal feeling or belief.

Fact example: The capital of the United States of America is Washington D.C.. Opinion example: Bob thinks it is going to rain while Tim says it is not.

Standard Unwrapped

KNOW Students will know, that, when they describe a picture, they have to mention the facts first then their predictions/ opinion.

ABLE TO DO Students will be able to distinguish between fact an opinion.

Instructional Strategies

Students are asked to describe a picture based on teacher generated questions. Teacher assists the description by talking about the foreground and the background information. Teacher might write the student description on board for visual learners.

Assessment Strategies

Students are periodically asked to put down picture descriptions. Pictures are either chosen by the teacher or by the students themselves.
