Find support in the text for main ideas.

Standard in Kid Friendly Language

You will be able to find the message (main idea) of short stories and explain your point by listing examples form the readings. Main idea is the most important information a writer wants you to know about a text.

ABLE TO DO Students will be able to prove the main idea of a text by listing the supporting details from the text.

Assessment Strategies

Students are mainly informally assessed based on contributions to classroom discussions and activities. Sometimes I ask students to draw the main idea and details, or write a one-minute paper on the reading.
