Essential Skills for PE 1

First Quarter:

Student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate how to get into partners, groups and teams quickly
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the gym boundries and areas of the gym.
  • Know emergency line, bathroom passes, drink passes, crash zone line, half court, whiteboard,tornado drill location, fire drill location.
  • Understand classroom rules
  • Travel in different ways in a large group without bumping into others or falling
  • Demonstrate each locomotor movement, with a basic understanding of each.
  • Demonstrate a variety of relationships such as under, over, behind, next to, through, right, left, up, down, forward, backward, around and in front of
  • Demonstrate clear contrasts between slow and fast movement when traveling
  • Roll sideways (right or left)

Second Quarter:

Student will be able to:

  • Understand the "loop swoop and pull" and demonstrate how to properly tye their own shoes.
  • Understand and identify 3 throwing ques
    • Grab the apple out of the tree
    • Point to your target
    • Step in opposition
  • Explore different rhythms
  • Balance and manipulate a variety of objects on different body parts
  • Demonstrate catching skills to self of low, medium and high, using light ability appropriate balls
    • Demonstrate or show knowledge of following moving objects with your eyes
  • Cooperate with peers in small and large groups
  • introduced to warming up before exercise
    • Why is exercise and warming up important?

Third Quarter:

Student will be able to:

  • The students will use hockey sticks to strike various size objects.
  • The student will also learn to trap the objects and how to travel safely with striking objects in their hands.
  • The students will use these skills in several small game and team settings.

Fourth Quarter:

Student will be able to:

  • Participate in a wide variety of games and activities including but not limited to: frisbees, horseshoes, hula hoops
  • demonstrate the spirit of cooperation and fair play
  • Know and demonstrate the rules to three recreational games or activities
  • Understand the importance of exercise
    • Why do we exercise in PE?
