Welcome to BMS 7th Grade Social Studies.

  • This is a World History class with an emphasis on regional literature over time and current events.
  • It is my firm belief that the future of the United States of America will largely be decided in classrooms just like mine. Today's young people will meet challenges never imagined by previous generations. To succeed, future generations will need wisdom from the past to make sense out of their ever-changing world.
  • Therefore, I conduct my class in such a way as to prepare young people to successfully interact with the business world (i.e., a boss and coworkers). We study the past, compare it to the present and consider implications for the future.

Course Description

Combined Essential Skills List for 7th Grade World History

  • The link above go to the list of the Colorado State Standards and Assessment Objectives that apply to 7th Grade Social Studies.
  • I assess student achievement of these Assessment Objectives with vocabulary quizzes, individual reading and writing projects and rubrics for various projects that we do in class.
  • Although I rarely assign "homework," my classes are project-based with graded assignments due each week or so. Usually students can complete these projects in class if they use their time wisely.

Assessments

Class Participation Rubric This is what I expect of my students in terms of behavior.

Collaborative Work Rubric This is what I expect of my students when they work in groups.

Competitive Class Debate Rubric This is an evaluation tool for scoring a student's performance in class debates.

Newscast Rubric

Research Report Rubric

Parent Involvement

  • I often need parent-volunteers to help with projects and things. Please contact me if you would like to help with our class.
  • I recommend that parents regularly go over the Student Planner with their children. I schedule things with my students on the first day of the week. So, on Monday night, your child should have his or her assignments and due dates.
