Algebra I Essential Skills for Level 9
First Quarter:
Student will be able to:
- Solve numeric expressions using order of operations, rules of signed numbers, and symbols of inclusion, absolute value and exponents. Standard 1.1 (1.1 & 1.4)
- For combined geometric shapes, find area, volume, and surface area. Standard 4.2a (4.3)
- Evaluate algebraic expressions. Standard 6.2a (6.5)
Second Quarter:
Student will be able to:
- Solve linear equations involving, distributive property and combining like terms. Standard 2.3a (2.7)
- Solve ratio, proportion, and percent problems. Standard 6.1a and Standard 5.1a (6.6)
- Measures of central tendency, range, mean, median, mode and which to use in various problems. Standard 3.4a (3.2)
- Determine the equation of a line given two points and graph lines using T charts and slope and intercept. Standard 2.1a (4.6)
- Solve right triangles using the Pythagorean Theorem and use it in story problems. Standard 4.2b (4.3)
Third Quarter:
Student will be able to:
- Solve two equations and two variables using substitution and elimination. Standard 2.3a (2.7)
- Simplify, multiply and combine like terms with radicals. Standard 2.3b
- Probability, with and without replacement. Standard 3.5a (3.3)
- Operations with Scientific notation. Standard 1.1c (1.1)
- Construct a scatterplot and draw the line of best fit. Standard 3.3a
- Make a stem-and-leaf plots and histograms. Standard 3.1c
- Solve value word problems. Standard 2.3a and Standard 5.1b
- Solve uniform motion problems. Standard 2.1 and Standard 5.1b
Fourth Quarter:
Student will be able to:
- Solve quadratic equations by factoring. Standard 2.1a (2.6)
- Find the distance between two points. Standard 4.2a (4.6)
- Find the equation of a line parallel or perpendicular to a given line. Standard 2.2a (4.6)
