Math Essential Skills for Level 4

First Quarter:

Students will be able to:

  • Read, write, order numerals/number – words to 100,000 and identify place value. Math Standard 1.2a
  • Identify and write numbers in standard, expanded, and written form. Math Standard 1.6b
  • Round numbers to the nearest 10,000; 100.000 and 1,000,000. Math Standard 1.5b
  • Add 6-digit numbers with regrouping. Math Standard 6.1
  • Solve problems using appropriate strategies for addition. Math Standard 6.5a, 2.3a
  • Subtract 6-digit numbers with regrouping. Math Standard 6.1
  • Solve problems using appropriate strategies for subtraction. Math Standard 6.5a, 2.3a
  • Decimals in money to $10.00. Math Standard 1.1e, 6.2b
  • Tell time to the nearest minute. Math Standard 5.1a
  • Identify a.m. or p.m. Math Standard 5.1a
  • Read analog and digital clocks. Math Standard 5.1a

Second Quarter:

Students will be able to:

  • Know and apply multiplication facts through 10’s. Math Standard 6.3a
  • Know fact families for multiplication and division. Math Standard 6.3b
  • Use division facts through 10’s. Math Standard 6.3a
  • Solve word problems by applying info from graphs or tables. Math Standard 2.2b
  • Interpret graphs to solve word problems. Math Standard 3.1a
  • Complete charts based on patterns. Math Standard 2.2a
  • Organize data to find the range, median and mode. Math Standard 3.2a
  • Reproduce, extend, create and describe patterns. Math Standard 2.1a
  • Identify and describe the rule for a number pattern to solve problems. Math Standard 2.3a

Third Quarter:

Students will be able to:

  • Multiply 4-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers. Math Standard 6.4b
  • Solve problems using appropriate multiplication strategies. Math Standard 6.5a, 2.3a
  • Divide 4-digit numbers by 1-digit divisors. Math Standard 6.4b
  • Solve problems using appropriate division strategies. Math Standard 6.5a, 2.3a
  • Identify and construct geometric shapes. Math Standard 4.2a
  • Identify and draw lines of symmetry. Math Standard 4.1b
  • Measure perimeter of polygons. Math Standard 4.3a
  • Identify and construct rectangles and squares with given perimeter on grids. Math Standard 4.3a
  • Find, construct, and determine area of squares and rectangles using grids. Math Standard 5.3b
  • Students will be able to identify attributes of common polygons. Math Standard 4.2d
  • Determine and use appropriate units of measurement, standard and metric for common objects. Math Standard 5.5a
  • Measure length in centimeters and to the nearest 1/4”, 1/2”, and inch. Math Standard 5.3a
  • Use appropriate tools for measuring length, weight, time, temperature, and capacity. Math Standard 5.1b
  • Extend geometrical patterns multiple times. Math Standard 2.1a

Fourth Quarter:

Students will be able to:

  • Identify decimal places through hundredths. Math Standard 1.2b
  • Identify and order commonly used fractions with unlike denominators using visual representations or manipulatives. Math Standard 6.2a, 1.1a
  • Locate and label 1/2, 1/3, 1/4 between numbers on a number line. Math Standard 1.3b
  • Identify mixed numbers and improper fractions. Math Standard 1.1a
  • Determine and support which outcomes are most, least, or equally likely when using a chance device. Math Standard 3.3b
  • Add and Subtract fractions with common denominators. Math Standard 6.2b
  • Support the reasonableness of an answer using estimation strategies. Math Standard 1.5a
