Math Essential Skills for Level 3
First Quarter:
Students will be able to:
- Locate and label 1/2’s between whole numbers on a number line. Standard 1.3b
- Compare whole numbers as greater than, less than, or equal to one another using words or symbols. Standard 1.2e
- Identify if a number is odd or even. Standard 1.1b
- Read, write, order, and identify place value up to 10,000. Standard 1.2a,b,c
- Identify numbers to 10,000 in standard, expanded, written form, and other equivalent representations. Standard 1.2a
- Estimate numbers to 1,000’s. Standard 6.4b
- Add 3-digit numbers. Standard 6.4b
- Identify and solve problems using properties for addition. Standard 6.5a
- Fact families for addition and subtraction. Standard 6.3b
- Add 5 one-digit column additions.
- Add sums using dollar signs and decimal points. Standard 6.2b
- Identify the coins and value.
- Combine coins to equal given amounts less than $1.00. Standard 1.1c
- Tell time to the nearest five minutes. Standard 5.1a
- Read analog and digital clocks. Standard 5.1a
- Organize data using tallies, graphs, or tables. Standard 3.1a
- Locate, label, and count forward from any even number by 2’s, and from any number by 10’s, 100’s, up to 999. Standard 1.3a
- Find missing elements in patterns. Standard 2.1b
Second Quarter:
Students will be able to:
- Estimate by rounding to the nearest 1,000. Standard 1.5a
- Subtract 3-digit numbers. Standard 6.4b
- Identify and solve problems using properties for subtraction. Standard 6.5a
- Subtract differences using dollar signs and decimal points. Standard 6.2b
- Determine how changes in one quantity effects changes in others (input and output) with addition and subtraction. Standard 2.4a
Third Quarter:
Students will be able to:
- Multiply basic facts – 1,2,3,5,10. Standard 6.3a
- Identify and write fractional parts – 1/2, 1/3 and 1/4. Standard 1.1c
- Identify right angles. Standard 4.2d
- Identify congruent figures. Standard 4.1a
- Identify/create a symmetry line for regular polygons and other familiar objects. Standard 4.1b
- Calculate perimeter of polygons. Standard 4.3a
- Identify points, lines and line segments. Standard 4.2b
- Identify characteristics of 2-D objects. Standard 4.2a
- Identify 3-D figures. Standard 4.2c
- Identify all possible combinations of matching elements of two sets given pictures. Standard 3.4a
- Interpret/draw conclusions using a graph or tables of data. Standard 3.2b
- Determine and compare units of weight, capacity, length and temperature. Standard 5.2a
- Identify and apply units of length, using inches and centimeters. Standard 5.3a
- Demonstrate use of standard and non-standard tools to measure (i.e. a paperclip is about 1”). Standard 5.4a
- Read thermometer s and interpret temperature, both Celsius and Fahrenheit. Standard 5.1b
- Recognize appropriate tools for measuring – length, weight, time or temperature. Standard 5.1c
- Read and interpret pictorial representations of measurements of length, weight, temperature, or capacity. Standard 5.1b
- Determine outcomes which are most likely, least likely, or equally likely when using chance devices. Standard 3.3b
Fourth Quarter:
