Projects and Activities

Student Created Story Problems Students can create a word document or a kid pix document as they make their own word problems. The motivation for complete sentences is great if they cannot print their story problem without everything correct. Students should type in their story problem, show the number model, and can add a picture in kid pix, or can draw a picture after printing.

Strategies for Special Needs Students

  • "Silent Sort"-Write your own or cut out story problems, some requiring addition and some subtraction. Hand them to students. Students come to the table and lay their story problem down. They must sort the them with no talking into piles of addition problems and subtraction ones. Teacher does not tell them the sorting rule so students must discover it. Can do this with any skill they need to practice sorting.
