Standard 5.1a - Level 1

Know, use, describe, and estimate measures of length perimeter, capacity, weight, time, and temperature.

Standard in Kid Friendly Language

Students will be able to use a ruler to measure how long something is using inches and using centimeters.

Standard Unwrapped

KNOW Students will know the length of an inch and a centimeter.

ABLE TO DO Student will be able to use a ruler to measure a line segment in inches.

Student will be able to use a ruler to measure a line segment in centimeters.

Instructional Strategies

  1. Students will work in cooperative groups during some measuring activities.
  2. Students will be given several opportunities to practice recognizing inches and centimeters and measuring items.
  3. Homework given will provide additional practice.

Assessment Strategies

  • Essential Skills Assessment given at the beginning of the year and at the end of the year.
  • Everyday Mathematics unit 4 and 6 assessments
