Standard 1.1e - Level 1
Demonstrate the value of nickels, dimes, quarters, and dollars in terms of pennies ( for example, 25 pennies = 1 quarter).
Standard in Kid Friendly Language
Students will be able to look at some coins and name a penny, a nickel, a dime and a quarter. Students will also be able to count pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters.
Standard Unwrapped
KNOW Students will know the value of a penny, nickel, dime and quarter.
ABLE TO DO Students will be able to identify pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters. Students will be able to count various coins in combination up to $.75.
Instructional Strategies
- Teacher will use overhead coins on projector requesting student response (on slates) to various coin amounts to provide practice and visual reinforcement and immediate feedback.
- Students will use manipulatives (real and plastic coins)and math journals to practice counting money.
Assessment Strategies
- Essential skills assessment given at the beginning of the year and at the end of the year.
- Unit 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 Everyday Mathematics assessment.
