Industrial Arts Essential Skills for Level 6

Each Trimester

Students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate proper shop safety.
  • Properly and safely operate shop equipment.
  • Recognize how shop safety and proper operation of equipment are vital to a successful completion of a designated project.

Students will know the required skills at the completion of 6th grade Industrial Arts.

Students will master reading a tape measure and or ruler to the nearest 1/8”.

Students will be able to obey and know proper safety in the shop at all times.

Students will also be able to know the different types of sandpaper when to use them.

Students will be proficient at safely using the following power tools:

  • Scroll saw
  • Belt and disc sander
  • Band saw
  • Drill press

Students will be proficient at safely using the following hand tools:

  • Hammer
  • Screwdriver
  • Clamps
  • Pliers
  • Hand saws
  • Files
  • Chisels
  • Bar clamps
  • C clamps

Students will be able to follow directions in completing a designated project.

Students will be able to master the finish work on a designated project, such as staining and polyurethane. Time will only allow them to stain one coat and polyurethane one coat.
