Content and Essential Skills


  • Standard 1- Students listen, view, and read for information and understanding a variety of sources, for academic and social purposes.


Skills


Beginning Level-Recognize and pronounce correctly most of the letters of the English alphabet in print.

Intermediate Level-Recognize and pronounce correctly all of the letters of the English alphabet in print and in written form.

Advanced Level- identify and pronounce a considerable number of phonemes (in context), consisting of one, two, and three letters,representing sounds specific to the English language, yet different from the letters' pronunciation as individual letters of the alphabet.


Assessment


1. Introduced the alphabet to monlinguals orally and then did an oral test of how many letters were pronounced correctly and documented progress of each monlingual student. Used the alphabet song to reinforce letter sound correlation.

2. Printed phonics pages testing beginning sounds with pictures and simple English sentences.

3. Used more advanced written material in longer English sentences using context and picture clues to elicit responses and and had students read simple books using orally that had the specific sounds needed such as vowels and consonants.
